irda for ChipKit

IrDA is listed as a feature for the pic32. Anyone tried it with ChipKit?

In conversation it's been described as putting an IR emitting LED on the transmit pin, and then placing a IR receiver on the receiving pin.

Is that correct? Does something need to be enabled?

Anyone have an example.
