We desperately need more captchas and similar things (at least temporarily) to stop the sudden huge influx of spam.

Sorry but this is the first bad attack we've had... it's usually been about 3 a day. I wasn't able to moderate earlier this morning so I'm sorry it lingered. I'll update captchas for a bit to try to make it not happen again...

It's more work, but trying moderating posts until after a valid post or two have been received. Then they can be un-moderated.

You must be doing something right - the spam seems to have tailed off somewhat :)

Switched the captcha to Google reCAPTCHA... not sure why the influx happened that one day, we're back to just 2 a day now.
