Using Arduino IDE 1.8.1 under MAC OS 10.12.3 I am unable to upload to a uno 32. error messages are

Arduino: 1.8.1 (Mac OS X), Board: "chipKIT UNO32"

Sketch uses 92376 bytes (72%) of program storage space. Maximum is 126976 bytes. Global variables use 7496 bytes (45%) of dynamic memory, leaving 8888 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 16384 bytes. Programmer for Microchip PIC32 microcontrollers, Version 2.1.24 Copyright: (C) 2011-2015 Serge Vakulenko

No target found. An error occurred while uploading the sketch

This report would have more information with "Show verbose output during compilation" option enabled in File -> Preferences.

I have updated the FTDI driver to version 2.3. All is ok under windows 10 and virtual machine. Failure to upload is MAC OS only. I hacve also updated the boards to the latest in the IDE environment.
