I got the Chipkit Pro MX4 and as instructed, I am using the MPIDE that I downloaded from Chipkit.net The MPIDE version only communicates via COM port and I have a USB. There is an option in the menu for serial communication, but it is grayed out for me. Consequnetly, when I compile and try to upload, the IDE reports back saying that the com port may not selected properly. I ended up searching for USB drivers that would work with the Chipkit Pro MX4 and that didn't work either. What resource is there for me to read that will lead me to be able to communicate with the Chipkit Pro MX4. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't have an mx4, only and mx7, so I am not sure if this is relevant or not, but the mx7 has two usb ports and you have to select the right one. One goes to the debugger, and the other goes to an ft232 chip. You need to use the ft232 one with mpide.
