Minimal 'field' WiFi network

I am trying to create a peer-to-peer network between a laptop WiFi and the chipKIT Wifi shield (or WF32). I will be working outside, so additional network (router) should be avoided if possible.

I heard here that AdHoc is not working for UDP. It there a network topology that allows P2P without more infrastructure?

Components:
Max32 or Uno32 with Wifi Shield Alternatively WF32 to Windows PC with Wifi

Shame about the windows PC component really. On Linux it's easy enough to turn the laptop into a wireless access point, but I have no clue how you'd do that on Windows - maybe there's some software you can download for it? If you can, that would simplify the networking somewhat as you'd basically be running in infrastructure mode, but with the laptop as the access point.

If you are looking for a simple WIFIthe TLG10UA03 is a serial to WIFI that is very flexible. But it would take some time for reading of the datasheet to understand the setup and AT commands.

Though, I did not buy mine from the link it was through AliExpress because the prices were better.

Thanks majenko and dangeljs. Not the easy answer I hoped for. Probably why I had to ask. I will look into your suggestions. I will certainly share what I find. -john
