Max32 DSPI and Serial failure fix?

It has been noted here before that if you use DSPI and perform a Serial.read(), the max32 crashes. It's been known since at least June 2011 as far as I can tell, but I can't find a single solution.

There are some dead threads that say you can trick the MPIDE to compile out some pins, but that a) doesn't seem like a legitimate fix, and b) I don't know where to start for that.

The quick question is: How do I use DSPI (1 or 0) AND the USB Serial functionality at the same time with a Max32?
